I gave a nod at Brightstar, to show that I had heard her warning. I sniffed the air, searching for the scent of herbs. I quickly caught the scent of coltsfoot. I looked to see if Brightstar had noticed it, but saw that she was staring at me expectantly. "I can smell coltsfoot." I said in a quiet voice.

Brightstar gave her apprentice a knowing glance. " Glowpaw follow me" She meowed quietly and began to pad forth to a large patch of berry bushes. She stopped and turned to Glowpaw " Glowpaw, would you rather become a Medicine cat than a warrior?" She asked the apprentice seriously, her eyes wide in questioning and her curiosity in the small cat before her.

I gave a small excited bounce. "Oh, yes. I would love to be the medicine cat apprentice. Do you really mean that I can?" I asked excitedly, for once not being able to sit still. I started to run in circles. I could hardly believe it. Medicine cat apprentice. But then I paused. "One question. How am I suppose to be a medicine cat apprentice, when we have no medicine cat?" I asked curiously.

Brightstar looked at Glowpaw with a satisfied smile. Now this apprenticecould become what she really wants.
"I had some medicine training when i was an apprentice" She meowed cheerfully her eyes lighting up hapily "It was nesecary as there was a great war and all warriors and apprentices were to be taught as much as possible about herbs. I can teach you what i know and then you may ask other medicine cats at the gathering." Brightstars eyes narowed " If they let you of corse"
She smiled again and indicated to the bushes behind her. " Now tell me what kind of bushes these are..."

I gave another small excited bounce, then calmly walked up to the bush that Brightstar had indicated. I took a deep sniff and then turned back to Brightstar. "I think it is juniper berries. Am I right." I asked hopefully.
(It is either juniper or holly. I can't be sure since you did not describe the bush.)

Brightpaw smiled down at the apprentice as she raised her head and parted her jaws slowly. Her eyes looked closely at the spiny dark green leaves and berries. A moment later she looked down at Glowpaw again, but this time amusement was in her eyes. "Its not Juniper Glowpaw" She meowed calmly, still smiling dow at the apprentice, " Its holly" Brightstar pushed her nose slowly through the spines and brought out a small red berry. "Its an easy mistake to make really, The only real difference between their looks is that the Juniper berries are purple"
She looked down at the apprentice. " Dont worry. You'll learn in time. Meanwhile, we should have a few hunting sessions too. Medicine cats need to be able to hunt to you know" Brightstar began to pad fowards scenting the air for any sighn of prey.

I gave a small nod and took a long look at the bush and its berries, so that I would be able to reconize it next time. I turned back to Brightstar. "Ok. I'll remember it next time. I'm ready to go hunting now." I gave a determined nod as I stared at Brightstar and waited to see what she would do next.

Brightstar went slowly, searching carefully for any scents of prey. Suddenly, Brightstar scented a rabbit and nearly a moment later she crouched as the rabbit hopped into sight. She signnaled for Glowpaw to come closer. " Now, see if you can catch that" She meowed under her breath watching the rabbit closely

I gave a nod and truned my attention to the rabbit. I paused for a second before dashing after it. I had almost caught it, when it dissapeared into its burrow. I gave a frustrated flick of my tail and turned back to Brightstar. "I missed it." I said in a disgruntled voice.

Brightstar nodded encouragingly. " It dosnt matter." She meowed softly and kindly, " It happens all the time. With more training you'l get it right". She turned back towards camp. " Come. Its been a long day and i'm sure you're tired" Brightstar turned and began to sprint back to camp, her own weariness seeping in as the sun began to set behind her.

I gave a nod and raced after Brightstar. I fleetingly wondered how Mistpaw was doing. I couldn't wait to tell him about all that I had been doing. I could hardly believe that I was going to train to be a medicine cat. I knew I would like it better than warrior training. I just hoped mother and Mistpaw would understand.

Mistpaw ran up to Glowpaw. "Hey glowpaw" He meowed excitedly " How was your day? Mine was great! Me and rainflower went all around the territory and then we hunted"
Mistpaw spun in a circle, full of energy waiting for Glowpaws Answer...

"I Mistpaw. We went around the territory too, and we went hunting, but I missed the rabbit. And something even more exciting, I get to train to be a medicnine cat!" I said excitedly, and then waited to see what Mistpaw would think about my suprising news.

Brightstar looked down at the two apprentices. "I'm going to leave you two alone, to talk about today" She meowed, as she smiled and began to pad down the track into the camp.
